Kat Gold, owner and founder of Katalyst Hair, is a sought after stylist and certified cosmetologist. Born and raised just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kat has always had the eye of an artist and a passion for hair. How a client feels is the key to beauty. Hair is an accessory you can feel confident about that’s as versatile and unique as you are!
In the 90s, Kat headed to Los Angeles, California to attend the prestigious Parsons School of Design. She discovered her true passion as a hairdresser, and built her career in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles until 2015, when she relocated to sunny South Florida. Kat’s work has involved print, television, film, and New York Fashion Week. Her love for cutting and coloring was refined through certification with top brands such as Schwarzkopf, Bumble & Bumble, Sassoon, Goldwell, Wella, Toni & Guy, Davines, and BES. Kat has been proudly partnered with Great Lengths/HairUWear as a wigs + extensions specialist for over 20 years. Working with acclaimed brands such as Jon Renau, Hairdreams, Balmain, hairdo., and Raquel Welch allows Kat to offer the most varied selections of wigs, toppers, and hairpieces of the utmost quality. As an extension and wig specialist, Kat has access to all brands and premium vendors.
Utilizing the latest technology to achieve attainable solutions for all ages and circumstances, Kat works with those experiencing age or genetic related hair loss, thinning, and medical conditions, as well as those seeking a new style, reliable enhancement, or dramatic change. She specializes in design, custom fitting, styles, blends, colors, extensions, wigs, and more to create the perfect match for every lifestyle and situation. Q: My hair is damaged. What can I do?
A: Extensions in lieu of highlights, babylights, balayage, and ombré that don't overlap or damage your hair further. Keratin treatments, conditioning, and clip-in fixes are all popular solutions (step away from the blow dryer!).
Q: Can I just get a hair cut or color?
A: Yes. Katalyst Hair is a full service hair salon. Kat is a hairstylist, master colorist, and cutting for over 20 years.
Q: What are hair systems?
A: Hair systems are non-surgical hair replacements that are customized to the tastes of each client. Each hair replacement system is handcrafted and tailored strictly to your liking and preferences! A unique process to create hair replacements and wigs for those struggling with hair loss and medical conditions.
Q: Are there hair systems for women?
A: We strive to provide all possibilities imaginable! We understand how important it is to keep things fresh and versatile.
Q: What if I don’t know what I want?
A: Then you’ve found the right place! Sometimes we only know what we don’t want. Kat’s experience assists in translating clients’ ideas and expectations. Utilizing the parameters available, she can expand upon your choices and possibilities.
Q: What if I found the same thing online?
A: Kat is certified with all companies she is partnered with. She guarantees her work, the integrity, and quality of all products she provides. Kat will assist you in finding the correct size, color, and style, and will specially order and/or customize your purchase tailored uniquely to you. Fittings, alterations, blending, and styling are part of maintenance required and provided by Kat. It is not uncommon for online retailers to offer discounts and clearance items which can include “buy backs”- items returned to vendor and resold as “new”.
Q: Can I just walk in and try things on?
A: Post-Covid and to accommodate all schedules, Kat is available by appointment only. For most efficient booking, kindly text 561-699-7787 with your name, preferred date + time, and service or interest. New clients are asked to please include a current photo. Consultations are available via FaceTime or en-salon. Schedules are subject to change- add yourself via text to Kat's cancellation list if seeking same-day appointments or sooner.
Please additionally note:
Keratin, highlights, extensions, and/or appointments exceeding 3 hours require a consultation prior to service, at which time Kat will cover questions, costs, and book your appointment.
Wigs, toppers, and hairpieces are important purchases. Consultations include matching clients with what is ideal for their personal circumstances. Finding the right color and style is as important as the type of piece purchased. Kat welcomes the opportunity to share her experience and help anyone in need of guidance!
Q: Do you cut men's and women's hair? How long do they take?
A: Yes. Haircuts range from $25 - $65 depending on what's being requested- clipper cut, blow-dry, etc. Nothing is started without consultation and approval, first! Haircut appointments require approximately 30 - 60 minutes. If only a simple touch up is needed, or no wash, they can take approximately 15 minutes.
Q: In light of Covid-19, can you still do back to back appointments?
A: At this time, Kat is returning to double booking on a tighter schedule. Overlap is expected. Please note that all sanitary practices are a priority- please wear a mask, and reschedule if you are feeling unwell. Private and first/last of day appointments are available upon request. Your health and safety are paramount to us- looking fabulous is much easier when you're feeling well!
Q: Does Kat still take late appointments?
A: Yes. Sola Salon provides 24/7 access. Kat is typically a night owl but will meet the early bird too, upon request!
Q: Does light therapy really work?
A: Yes. Katalyst Hair uses infrared and red LED bulbs at 660nm-840nm. This has been scientifically proven to regrow hair safely and effectively. With just 5-10 minutes of light therapy a few times a week, genetic and age related hair thinning and loss are reduced. The mitochondria in cells are stimulated, along with increased blood flow to stimulate new growth, including areas where the cuticle has closed. Combined with an oil and conditioning treatment, one will notice results within a month. You can read more about it here.
Q: Does anyone ever answer the phone?
A: Kat’s full attention goes to the clients in her chair. Please text 561-699-7787 for a more immediate response. Voicemails, Instagram DMs, and Facebook messages will be returned within 24 hours. Online and Instagram appointments are available, but please note that all scheduling is finalized via text. To accommodate several appointments in excess of 4 hours requires direct (text) scheduling.
Q: Does Katalyst Hair accept insurance?
A: We provide vouchers and receipts for your insurance to accept- re: reimbursement.
Q: Will a keratin treatment permanently straighten my hair?
A: Katalyst Hair uses Naturia brand keratin. This product is organic and formaldehyde free. Chemical free products offer superior results. In the past, keratin, or “Brazilian blowouts,” were comprised of the same chemical makeup as traditional “relaxers”. These products destroyed the cuticle’s inner core, resulting in destruction to any curl pattern. This was unfortunately damaging to many hair types.
Naturia keratin fills your cuticle with conditioning protein- strengthening hair, repairing damage, and stimulating hair growth. A sealer will provide a shine and frizz resistant protective coat that lasts approximately 4 months. As a result, hair is softer, smoother, and can be straightened with minimal effort, as well as curled or waved if desired- all frizz free!
Q: Are the hair extensions sold at this salon ethically sourced?
A: Kat is partnered with Great Lengths hair extensions, a company that prides itself in the ethical sourcing of human hair. This is important to us here at Katalyst Hair, too!

Q: How much does it cost to get Great Lengths Extensions?
A: Based on consultation, there's a solution for every scenario and budget. We can't give you a set price because the service will vary client to client. Great Lengths Hair Extensions are truly a custom service. There are a variety of factors to be considered and options available. Prices for Great Lengths Hair Extensions often start at $1000 and go up for a full head of length and volume.
Q: Why are Great Lengths Hair Extensions different?
A: Great Lengths Hair Extensions are 100% virgin Remy, human hair sourced from India. Using a patended protein polymer bond that mimics the natural molecular structure of keratin found in human hair, they maintain a pH value of 5.5 to be compatible with your own hair.
Q: My boyfriend's losing his hair. What can be done about male hair loss?
A: For men with hair loss, our hair replacement systems offer multiple styling options for a remarkably natural look. Each top-of-head system is designed to be lightweight and comfortable, with amazing front hairlines and the appearance of hair growing directly from the scalp.
